Take advantage of innovations developed over 4 generations of AIT, with Sony's new entry level solution for the price sensitive user High capacity, high performance Sony AIT-1 tape drives deliver up to 40GB native in a compact, 8mm data cartridge. High reliability Sony AIT tape drives incorporate a redesigned head geometry, reducing head/tape pressure and delivering up to 50,000 hours of head life and an industry leading MTBF rating of 300,000 POH (100% duty cycle). Compact form factor AIT drives offer high capacity in an extremely compact 3.5-inch form factor. With a compact size a fraction of the size of other high capacity tape drive formats, AIT drives are easy to integrate into desktop workstations, servers, and automated tape libraries.
Capacity - Up to 40 GB native storage capacity, or 104 GB compressed (2.6:1) in a compact, 3.5", half-height form-factor - Store more information in less space.
Performance - Sustained data transfer rate of 6 MB/s native provides high performance backups - Up to 21.6 GB/hour native.
Compression - Adaptive Lossless Data Compression (ALDC) provides greater data compression efficiency - Offers average compression of 2.6:1.
Reduced Periodic Maintenance - Super Head Cleaner? provides an automated cleaning solution - Increases head life and reduces the need for periodic cleaning.
Reliability - Helical scan recording writes the tape in one pass with a slow tape speed and allows higher recording densities than linear recording - Reduces wear-and-tear on the data cartridge and drive, increasing reliability, head life, and storage capacity within a compact form-factor.
